EXCERPT
“I just feel I need something, Rachel. Something away from this life and the army and I don’t know what.” Annie’s voice shook as she sat back down and looked searchingly into Rachel’s eyes. Rachel, in a rush as always, scooped her nail polish and mobile phone into her leather bag, stood up and kissed her friend on her head.
“Annie, is everything all right with you and Mike?” she asked, clearly concerned.
Annie was aware she had always appeared so happy and settled as an army wife. She had a reputation for being the one wife you could count on for support and guidance and the one who always had a cheery smile and a kind word. She didn’t doubt Rachel could sense that she was not herself but wasn’t sure how she could help.
“I just feel like I’m really being taken for granted, Rache,” Annie said, pulling her long blonde hair back into a scrunchie. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me... or us. I’m just getting more and more fed up with Mike spending so many hours at the Mess now he’s back on camp. It’s like he feels more comfortable there and not at home.” Annie held back her tears and swallowed as she looked at her reflection in the window. It’s like he’s forgotten the us we used to be and the awful thing is I think I have too, she thought sadly.

Top 10 Things You Would Like To Do / Visit In
England
England is such a beautiful place with so much
history. The wonderful thing is one moment you can be in a metropolitan City
sipping coffee in a café people watching, and the next, riding a horse across amazing
countryside. I think the top ten places to visit would have to be a mish-mash
of City and Town.
1.
London! The amazing shopping
with a visit to the famous Harrods. All the wonderful clothes shops in
Knightsbridge and along Oxford Street would pull me in. I am mad on fashion,
clothes, shoes, handbags, the latest miracle face cream, makeup, so London
would be an amazing opportunity and one not to be missed. Shopping followed by
afternoon tea at The Ritz, before dressing up in my best dress, high sparkly shoes,
then to a top restaurant before taking in a show would be a dream.
2.
While in London I would have
to do the tourist thing of sightseeing; maybe Buckingham Palace to see where
the Royal family live and Madame Tussauds to see if I can recognize the waxworks
of famous people. A quiet trip on the London Eye to relax and take in the views
that reach out across London and beyond.
3.
A boat ride on the River
Thames, maybe starting in London and continuing down to Hampton Court where
Henry the Eighth lived. I understand there is an old maze there - that would be
fun and to see if the ghost of Anne Boleyn would pay me a visit.
4.
Moving away from the hustle
and bustle of London, I think it would have to be a visit to ‘Royal Windsor,’
to see Windsor Castle, another retreat for The Queen. I think I would need another
mooch around the shops and then take a leisurely walk around Windsor Great
Park.
5.
I think I would probably
like to get away from it all and hire a car and drive to the Cotswold’s, a
quintessential English place to visit. It is a beautiful part of England with
its chocolate box cuteness and old villages. Perhaps a stay in a lovely period
hotel and breath in the history of the old market towns with cobbled streets
and atmospheric tea-shops.
6.
I would continue with a
drive to The Lake District, Beatrice Potter country. When I was a little girl I
read a book called Swallows and Amazons about a group of young children in the
1920’s who spent a summer there. It captivated me and I would love to the lakes
for myself.
7.
After taking in all the
beautiful English countryside, I would have to continue to the seaside and
maybe a trip to Cornwall. Steeped in maritime history of smugglers and
shipwrecks I would love to walk along the beaches and feel the sand between my
toes. Maybe a walk around the pretty little villages that are tucked away and
then find a tea shop to taste the famous Cornish clotted cream and scones.
8.
It would be super to combine
all these trips to coincide with the Glastonbury Festival. Held in open fields,
visitors camp out under the stars and listen to top bands and singers
performing live. I have seen the photos in the paper and always thought it
looked such fun. I gather Dolly Parton is performing this year. So many famous
bands and singers perform at Glastonbury and now Dolly bringing Country!!
9.
Being a lover of music, it
would be nice to visit the home of the Beatles, Liverpool, and have my photo
taken in the Cavern where it all started for them. A trip to Abbey Road in
London to have my photo taken on the famous zebra crossing outside the old
recording studio would be fun.
10. My last
place to visit would be the Isle of Wight. After visiting the New Forest and
seeing the wild ponies it would be a great experience to take the car across on
the ferry from Lymington to Yarmouth and then a stay in a lovely hotel on the
Isle of Wight. I would like to visit during the week when they hold the Cowes
sailing regatta and watch the maritime yacht and speed boat racing. It would be
nice to finish the day sampling the locally caught fish, a cool after dinner
aperitif and watch the setting sun duck down behind the horizon.
This or That
1.
Ebook or Paper/Hard backs
Am I allowed both? I love the feel and smell of a book,
especially an old book that has been loved and well thumbed through the years.
However the instant easy access to an Ebook is wonderful. Technology has moved
along so much, and to download a great story on to a Kindle at any time of the
day, anywhere in the world is marvelous.
2. Laptop or PC
Definitely laptop. I write all the time and
could never be without mine. Where I go, it comes too as I never know when an
idea will pop into my head. A quiet moment means I can open up my laptop and
work on one of my many stories with easy access.
3. Tennies or Heels
Has to be heels. So many pretty girlie heels
to wear and so little time!!! Lol …….. I won’t deny there are times where a
comfy pair of tennies comes in handy too, but there is something about pulling
on a pair of heels to make a girl feel sexy.
4. Country or Rock
Aw, tough one….being a big lover of ALL music
genres I can’t say I have a specific favorite. However, if pushed, it would
have to be Country.
5. Skyscrapers or 1-3 story(ies)
Not skyscrapers. I am a little afraid of
heights and would get vertigo just going up in the lift.
6. Army or Navy
Definitely Army…….any man in a uniform has
true sex appeal. Give me a Paratrooper or Marine in his combats and I am a
happy lady.
7. Coffee or Tea
Tea. Preferably a nice cup of Earl Grey,
served in a pretty cup and saucer please.
8. Winter or Summer
Well I do love Winter with its frosty, chilly
mornings or snow days snuggled up with someone wonderful and the wood burner
going, but it’s not always that romantic, especially with the miserable rain
and wind. I think really I am more of a Summer girl. Sun on my face, cool
summer’s breeze, pretty summer clothing. I am a good swimmer so even better if
I have a beach close too.
9. Fruit or Candy
I love fruit. Strawberries, grapes,
blueberries……but I have to admit I do have a penchant for chocolate. Sorry, has
to be both! How about strawberries dunked in melted chocolate!
Tough one as I do love eating out and dancing
in a Club or going to watch a good movie, but if pushed, a good night in with a
great DVD, home cooked supper, cool glass of wine and a kiss and cuddle on the
sofa - great!
